Guide to opening and saving files
Select one of the files listed to open it. It will open using the appropriate application if available.
Viewing PDFs
Some of the downloads on this website are PDF files. To see these files you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your machine. If you need to install this software, you can download it from the Adobe website.
Saving a file
When a file is open, select Save As from the File menu and save it to your hard disk drive.
In some browsers, the files will open in the current window. To return to browsing the website, select the Back button in the browser toolbar.
Guide to downloading and saving video clips
Videos found in the Gold dust resource are in either Flash, QuickTime, Windows Media Video, MPEG or Real Video formats.
- Choose the format you wish to download
- PC users: Right click on the file type link and select 'Save target as ...'
- Macintosh users: Hold down the mouse button on the file type link (QuickTime or Flash) and select 'Download link to...'
You will then receive a dialogue box with instruction on how to save your video clip.
The Flash videos cannot be downloaded and will instead open in an online player.
If you do not have Real Player installed on your computer you can download it from the Real website.
If you do not have QuickTime installed on your computer, you can download it from the QuickTime website.
If you do not have Windows Media Player installed on your computer, you can download it from the Microsoft website.
Viewing videos and interactive activities
The videos and interactive activities on this website use Adobe Flash Player 8. If you need to install this plug-in, you can download it from the Adobe Flash Player website.

Increasing the text size
If you find the text on this site is too small, you can change it easily in your browser settings. To do this you can adjust your browser's settings:
- if you use Microsoft Internet Explorer, go to the View menu, select Text Size and then either Larger or Largest
- if you use Netscape Navigator, go to the View menu and choose Increase Font until the text is the size you require
Changing the colours
If you use magnification technology you may want to change the site colours, as white can give an uncomfortable glare. To do this, simply change the preferences in your browser:
- if you use Microsoft Internet Explorer, go to the Tools menu, select Internet Options, select Colours and make changes to text and background colours in the Colours panel
- if you use Netscape Navigator, go to the Edit menu, select Preferences, open the Appearance menu and select Colours. You can set the colour of text and background from here
