Cross-curricular themes
As well as becoming competent in their subject or vocational specialisms, learners need to understand key themes relating to the world of work, for example:
- Enterprise
- Customer care
- Health, safety and well-being.
If these areas are introduced into the curriculum, learners can identify the transferable skills and knowledge and relate them to employment opportunities in their specialist areas.
Learners should understand what equal opportunities in the workplace means and teachers should include this area in work placement preparation. Teachers need to be well prepared and have up to date information about aspects of equal opportunities in the workplace. A useful source of information is the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS).
In this section you will find resources that introduce learners to these themes and strategies to help you embed them in specialist curriculum areas.
