Promoting progression

“An individual learner's progression from engagement in learning to further stages of learning and employment to fulfil personal, professional and/or academic aspirations” (DCSF 2008).

‘Learner progression’ is a term that has the learner journey at its core. Every learner is different, but each one will have aspirations and personal goals that need to be met. These might include the need to achieve a certain level of formal qualification or develop specific skills. Additionally, the learner may be looking to increase their levels of confidence or develop their communication skills. For some learners, progression is not about moving up a level, but about personal development, demonstrating competence or being able to cope within the workplace.

The resources in this section can support teachers as they consider the opportunities they have to promote progression throughout the learner journey.
